Varna means 'colour' in Sanskrit. The title represents the medium of colour used to express ideas. While it stands true that a majority of the artworks use shades of just one colour, the title was chosen to reflect that the essence of every piece is maintained regardless the number of hues it adorns.
Varna also refers to an important section of Carnatic music and Bharatnatyam repertoire. These pieces weave together perfectly expression of ideas and aesthetic elements like note sequences. The visual art here attempts to bring about a similar balance.
